"JACK STAND SAFETY" — UPDATE

STANDS at SEARS. The JACKS maximum ht. is 14.5". It costs only $39.99
and is made by "CRAFTSMAN". IS THIS "JACK" ADEQUATE ENOUGH and is
14.5 inches enough room to comfortly work under the car?

APPRECIATION UPDATE:
THANKYOU EVERYONE for all the replies to this THREAD. This information was definitely NEEDED and APPRECIATED. Weighing all the input from this
vastly EXPERIENCED FORUM, I settled on a CRAFTSMAN 3 TON JACK & 4 —
3 TON JACK STANDS, all with maximum lift of 21 inches. I don't have
access to a garage or driveway, so my good wife and I went to a hospital
garage that I have used before when BAD WEATHER was expected, (deep
snow, hail, hurricanes, etc.). I drove up to the 4th floor where there was
lots of space, hard concrete floors and no distractions being that it was
early Sunday a.m. Using the "HOW TO JACK-UP A ZR-1" by J. Michael Hom,
and the information in this THREAD, everything went SAFE & SMOOTH. One
thing though, the "infamous" Haynes Corvette Manual led me to believe I
had to put the car on "all fours".
When are they going to UPDATEthat thing.
I will be getting a HELMS MANUAL. YOU GUYS AREGREAT! MANY UPS!

Though 14" isn't much room, if you jack the car at one side point the front or rear (depending on where jacked) will be more than that height off the floor.

The 2 2 1/2 ton stands only go to about 14.5 (like you listed) and they came with the smaller 21" quick lift SUV style jack I bought. I think it was like $69.99 for the set on sale.
I just picked up the matching pair of 3 ton stands, but I think they were only like $19.99 regular price. $39.99 seems a bit high for the stands you listed (unless the jacks included).
I will say, I do like the extra height though. It just makes things easier and if you have to pull the exhaust or tranny, you'll need all the room you can get!

so I could "sleep next to my baby".
Looks as though you change andmount your tires yourself.
I did it once... BUT WILL NEVER DO IT AGAIN!!
It's a total bitch. You've got to get at least 24" if you're over 30 years old. The more height the better. Spend the money on some high lift jacks.
My new house is getting a four-point lift. Screw scooting around on your back
Header companies all used to tell you to get it up aprrox. 24" Ive done it at less, same w/trans and yes it can be done but huge PITAI used to worry bout it myself and kept at least one floor jack under front member or rear end w/a little pressure off the stands for stability
Dan P. I was looking at the drive up four post myself
The link that bogus posted has some real nice gear. The ac. floor jacks plate set-up and 3 1/2"- 30" height is awesome!!

But I finally broke down and Bought one of these:
Thanks...I have actually slept out there
The little bar fridge is handy for refreshing beverages. I think the Kwik lift =Jeff= has is the best. One day when I reconfigure my garage for more depth, I'm getting one! I am petrified that the car will come down on me. Hence the 6 ton stands. I also keep the jack extended at some point near where I am working just for that extra bit of protection. Some use a tire and wheel. I've got a 54" chest, I need every BIT of height I can get to do anything under the car!
What make is that lift , thats sweet
I have a low ceiling so that would be great.
Murray
I have had it for a month.. I really like it

SUPPORTED and PROPERLY PLACED with "strong & sturdy" JACK STANDS
suggesting that the FLOOR JACK remain in place as an added precaution.
WHY?? IS THEIR A CHANCE FOR SLIPPAGE?
