Shift Kits
As I've probably already bored you to tears, here's some more questions...
I'm thinking since the tranny is being rebuilt that I'll go with a shift kit. But, what exactly is in the shift kit?
I was looking at maybe the 700 R4 Transgo Jr. Shift Kit and the .500 Mega Valve plus getting a real Corvette servo regardless of the rest. I think I can egt all of that for about $60
Are there other shift kits worth looking at? I don't plan on building a full blown racing tranny, cuz lets face it, my L98 is not a racing engine.
I like the 50 dollar B&M kit. .470 valve is stock in a vette trans. .500 not really needed. Also, vette trans contains vette servo. OEM servo is better quality than aftermarket servo.

The tranny shop thinks the servo in my trans was not a corvette servo, so they're checking to make absolutely sure. They said it seemed small for a vette servo, but may have had it confused with a high performance servo. They're also looking into shift kits, clutch packs, etc for me.

Nothing. Your right foot is the controlling factor. Because the kits are causing the shifts to happen quicker and with more pressure. Think of your question asking as if a racing clutch will change gas mileage.
I have the B&M kit and 1-2 is very crisp. Almost annoying when crusing. I also have a 4th servo thats bigger than the Corvette. Where the trans needs help now is 2-3. There is an obvious slip at this shift that needs help. I'm still looking for ideas to cure this issue.

I agree the 1-2 on the B & M is almost voilent at light throttle, but is exactly right with moderate to heavy throttle.
I had my 85's trans rebuilt with the B&M master rebuild kit which used 9 Red Alto clutch packs instead of the stock 6. I would look into either Red Alto's or the higher perf. blue clutch packs (9 not 6), thatought to cure your slippage.
I have the Transgo shift kit..mine is "full race"...around town at part throttle it's a bit harsh but at the drag strip, woohoo!!!...at WOT it shifts like lightening and the tach hardly moves during the shifts...
I went the B&M route, A master added plate kit and a shift kit. I fully agree that 1-2 is too harsh. If you race it most likely is the ticket but cruising it is a pain. Wish I had stopped with the master kit.
I too have the B&M shift kit; I put it in when I swapped the diffs, and went to a 3:54. Coming of the line with a 3:54, and the B&M is comporable to "blast-off" time and Cape Cannavral (maybe a slight exaggeration, but not much). However, I agree that the shift is quite strong when doing casual driving in town, but the trade off is worth it, to me.
I have a Transgo, but actually, there are a lot of "no-name" shift kits out there that a good tranny shop might recommend. Hope you're replacing the converter too (2400-2600).
