I am in the process of doing some work on my 87 vert and I have removed the upper trim piece. My mirror now vibrates at speed but it never did before. When I get it back together I will see if it makes a difference. I'm thinking that if you put a rubber grommet under the bolt that holds the mirror on it might solve your problem. My theory here is that the plastic trim piece was acting as a buffer against the vibration.
I'll have to check on that, because I just noticed mine vibrating all to hell last night during a cruise with some fellow members. It definitely hadn't done it before, and all I did was wash the car!
Sounds like mine, the screw was loose, it got to the point where it would back out all the way after about 200 miles, (lots of road trips) and the mirror would fall. I just used some teflon tape on the screw and it hasn't come out since.

Y'all got a screw loose? Hahahaha. Hey!! You said it, not me first! Just kidding. Thanks to you all . Knowing me, whatever I tightened, it was probably NOT the right screw. Story of my life.
Look, it's Fourth of July weekend and I'm here on this forum complaining about a frickin' vibrating mirror.. fer cryin' out loud. Talk about a screw loose. ME.
Thanks again, I got nothin' goin' on. I'm gonna rush down with a "screw" driver and see if I can tighten it up. 'Course I won't know until I take it out the next time. Hmmmmm.
My rear view mirror needs Viagra, it won't stay up. When I hit a bump, it drops down. I don't see a set screw to tighten the "ball and socket" that allows you to adjust the mirror. Any help here?
