93 A4 tranny problem
hello everyone,
My 93 LT1 is an A4 with 160K miles on it, the last 10K here in Germany on the autobahn.
Before I took a long trip to Luxembourg this weekend, I tried some preventive maintenance and put in Trans Medic automatic tranny treatment. I had not had ANY problems with my automatic tranny until this happened. I checked the fluid before adding it and calculated it was low enough to add the trans medic without overfilling.
All went fine with the 400 mile drive, but on the way home I pulled out of a rest stop and gunned it in overdrive (circle D), though not very hard, in drive. there was a loud bang and shudder as the rpm went up to redline, but not beyond it....and the tranny was no longer engaged. I shifted to 1, then 2, and then regular D and it drove fine..I can even gun it in the autobahn and it will shift and downshift correctly..but not when it is in 1st gear and it tries to shift up to second.
any opinions?
