Default Wipers hitting each other

Hi everyone,

This is my first post here. I just bought a 93 Ruby 3 weeks ago. I had to use the wipers today because of the rain and they hit each other and sometimes one will stick straight out and slam back onto the windshield.

Can anyone give my any advice on this problem.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read my post.

You have the wrong wipers on the car. Get the ones from the dealer, and they will work fine. Make sure you put them on the correct side. The driver's side is offset slightly differently.

Dartvader, They came from the dealer and they installed them. I have the invoice from the previous owner. Any other suggestions as to what I can do?

On the 85, I went to a little shorter wiper to stop the problem.

I would take it back to the dealer and complain. Now, just for the record, I got a set of wipers from the dealer, and they had the numbers reversed. The wiper that was listed for the driver, turned out to be the passenger's and vis-versa. I assumed that was a wierd one of a kind thing, but maybe an entire batch was done wrong. I would put the shorter ones on if you can;t get satisfaction from the dealer. Since then, I have gone to Tony's Corvettes in Gaithersburg, and the blades he puts on work fine.

After removing and replacing the wiper arms, they began hitting each other. The arms were keyed properly and nothing else had been changed.

I noticed that the drivers side wiper arm sweeps downward ahead of the passenger side. As the pass side follows, it was here where contact was made. I slightly bent the outer end of the drivers wiper downward to prevent the contact.

Works fine now! And at highway speeds..

So where are you from? Mercy, driving a Vette in the rain in July!!!

I'd drive them back to the dealer and see what they say.

Try this link here, pretty much an issue with most C4s including I have heard with C5s as well. I had the same problem, mostly when the windshield and wipers start doing that skippy chattering. I have done this fix, ordered parts from GM parts direct. has not happened yet again, but I have not driven my vette much since deployed, anyways the link~~

I wish I could take it back, but I bought the car from a guy in Indiana and I live Virginia Beach, VA. That's too long of a drive. Plus the wipers were done over a year ago, eventhough it was only 1500 miles ago. 800 of that was me driving home.

I had this conversation with Gordon Killebrew and he said this is a sign of worn out blades. They are dragging just enough to catch each other. Either flip them around or purchase new ones.
Hope this helps.

In '96 they revised the design to fix this problem. It entailed altering the angle of the blade arm, shortening the blade itself, and re-designing the blade holder so that the metal doesn't go all the way to the end of the blade but instead stops short approximately 1 inch.

This upgrade will resolve your problem. I wouldn't put it off too long as there have been reports of the blades colliding and one pops out forward and causes damage to the hood. Then it becomes a very expensive repair instead of just an upgrade.

Note you cannot mix 96 arms with older model blades.

Also note that it is very important to put the correct blade on the correct side. They are only a fraction of an inch different but if they get reverse then they too will collide. (ask me how I know this lol).

Anyway Right and Left reference you sitting in the vehicle, therefore right is passenger side and left driver's side.

Give Chris at Superior a call 1-800-728-8267 and order the following:

L blade 22154985
R blade 22155368

L arm 10288071
R arm 10288072

You should expect to pay roughly $17 for the blades and under $16 for the arms. Those are your discounted prices from Superior.

This will fix your problem.
