Default What is this thing?

On the front left hand side if the engine bay....under the light. It looks and sounds like a hair dryer motor when the engine cranks....and it looks like the pipe goes into or near the ASR.

Was not on my 85 or 91. Is it an optional item or LT1 specific?

oh yeh....93 6spd ........

Did someone leave a hair dryer the last time you left the hood up?

Wild guess [except for the noise]--Maybe the thing that measures the exterior temperature for the dash .

That is your AIR pump for emissions. It supplies fresh air to the exhaust manifolds in open loop. It does this via a diverter valve (near the ASR).....it aids in warming up the cats faster. It should go off once the ECM goes into closed loop.

You ought to hear the ones on the early ZR1 cars. They sound loud as heck!

Yeah. They're electric, not belt driven. Mine is loud. Luckily it only runs for the first couple minutes until the motor reaches proper operating temps.

I'll be dipped! I was at a small Corvette show 3 years ago and there was a later C4 there with several folks gathered around its open hood. They were all discussing the same thing.
No one knew what it was. The best guess was that it was something to do with the traction control.
Just shows to go ya that if you hang here long enough you will learn the answers to all of your C4 questions.
