Maybe the C4 Tech Forum could help. I was reading a thread today named 'My'86 Hates Me...' and lower into it they were talking about Optis that were being chewed up or destroyed with in a few miles all of a sudden by the cam pin. Not a answer to your problem, just perhaps a window of opportunity. Good luck.

THAT is wierd. Chris Petris told several of us in a recent C4 class that the 95 and 96 Opti normally lasts for about 100,000 miles.
Shoot him an e-mail at chris@corvetteclinicinc.com and tell him that Ron with the loud mufflers wanted to know. Then tell us what he comes up with.
An Opti would last past 100K. My 92 had the non-vented Opti. It lasted for 195K miles

I replaced the following"
New Opti Spark . Cap Rotor.
NewFuel pressure reg.
New MSD Wires & Coil.
New Plugs
The only thing I havent replaced is the fuel filter.
The same problem just happened again. This time the dealer said the harness connection was the problem. Again no charge. Does anyone think the coil could be causing this?
That's what I was going to suggest ! The positive venting is only to remove the ozone created by the optical light process .
Optis are good up to 7700 RPM's !
These cars are getting old and heat is destroying plastic connectors and wiring in high heat areas.
I would start looking at the ECM as well. They become heat soaked and components fail. I chased a major problem in my '93 before I finally isolated it down to the ECM. You can perform a fairly quick check by simply removing the ECM, putting on your bench and remove the cover. A simple smell test for burnt silicone will tell you if your ECM is defective. That's how I isolated two of them.
BTW, if the ECM becomes heat soaked and fails after the vehicle is up to operating temp, it does shut down the engine starting with missing then dead, and you will not get it restarted. Once everything cools back down, it may start and run a few minutes but that's about it.
So after your coil, and the coil harness is confirmed good. I would look at the ECM to ensure it is good.
