I was reading in the owners manual that you should be able to disengage the alarm by maually unlocking the drivers side door. My vette will not allow me to do this. Only the passenger side door works in this manner. Somebody told me that this was correct, but I just have a real hard time believing it. If indeed I should be able to disengage the alarm from the drivers side could somebody tell me what could be wrong? Has anybody had this problem?
The owner's manual is correct. You should be able to disengage the factory alarm from either door lock. It is probably a bad switch on the inside of the door handle or wiring issue.

Over time, the drivers side lock gets worn. I bought some used door handles off of ebay and rebuilt the drivers side lock and switch with the best parts.

When you turn the key a lever grounds out a wire. It's probably gunked up, mine was the same way.
I fixed it by removing the door panel and cleaning the backside of the lock. You could even test continuity on that wire to be sure it works before putting the door back together.
The alarm switch is seperate from the door lock tumbler. Since the driver's door gets used so much more than the passenger one it typically breaks as you've found out.
