Ordered a new set of red leather seats today for my '92. Been doing some searchng on how I go about removing the old ones and installing the new ones. Could someone provide a link to a site or perhaps offer some advice on the removal/installation. I plan on doing the exchange myself.
Thanks in advance.
Did you order just new leather covers or new covers installed on new foam?
It makes a difference. If your going to install covers over your existing foam, your going to need a kit that provides the special pliers and new hog rings. A heat gun is necessary too. There is a detailed set of illustrated procedures I've seen somewhere, I'll search my system to see if I have it.
Removing the backs from the plastic are held in with hog rings, so even if your installing covers on new foam you'll need the kit.
Seat cushion, press the front edge of the foam down and reach under the front while doing so you'll find a small wire the shape of a squared U, pull forward and down to release.
Seat back:
-If you have lumbar disconnect the hose.
-Push in (toward the center of vehicle) on outer upper side of seatback cushion 5 inches down from top of seat. While pushing, insert fingers (or suitable tool) between seatback cushion and seatbach frame until fingers reach outer bolster wire. Push in on wire to dislodge it from clip.
-Pull seaback cushion toward door to dislodge inner bolster wire from inner clip..
-Fold seatback cushion forward and down.
-Unclip lower retaining rods from lower clips.
-Remove seatback cushion while guiding retaining rods down and out from behind bolster driveshaft.
Thanks for the information. I have sport seats but the lumbars don't work. New seats are standard. It sounds like I should remove the entire seat from the car so I can disconnet and remove the lumbar hardware. Would this be a correct assessment?
