I noticed that my fuel door emblem is faded and does not look good at all.
So I decide to take the screws off after I ordered another one and once I took the screws off the old emblem still would not come off.
My question is if anybody else has had this problem? Is it supposed to just fall off after you remove the screws? Did some previous owner that owned it before me glue the damn thing on and now the only way to get it off would be to maybe damage the fuel door.
Any suggestions on how to get this off. I might have to get a new fuel door.

THe emblem is also secured with double sided tape. You'll need to cut it off with dental floss or some other method. When I replaced this one with an NOS from ebay, I removed the sticky tape and simply attahed it with the nuts. Likewise the same with the hood emblem. Makes it easier to remove when waxing.
If you are very careful pour some methal hydrate...hope I spelled that right.....basically gasline antifreeze..it shouldn't do anything to the paint....pour some around the emblem and let the old sticky tape soak it up. We used to use it in the detail shops for bug/tar removal or even old glue from emblems.

you can also spray some WD-40 around the emblem. Then the dental floss will zip right through the adhesive (let it soak a bit). After it comes off, use a rag with the WD-40 to remove any remaining glue from the paint without harming it.
I just changed both hood and gas door emblems. Follow the recommended procedure in the GM service manual. Use a heat gun or hair dryer, start heating it up almost to the point its too hot to touch and lift it off. Start at one edge heat it up and start lifting, once one edge is free move all around until it pops off. After it is removed let it cool down just a bit and use naptha or equivalent to remove the excess adhesive, I used 3M Adhesive Cleaner in the spray can which is the same stuff you use to clean up when doing weatherstrips. It won't harm the paint. You also may wish to clean it up after its removed and put some polish on before installing the new emblem.

Well problem solved. I went out today in the afternoon when it was about 90 degrees outside.
Sprayed some WD40 on and within seconds I was able to slide it around and eventually pull it off.
The old emblem was looking bad. There was zero red left on the emblem and the circle that should have been black was gray.
Next I will have to take care of the outside window seals they both look as if the car has been broken into about 30 times from each door. I have a feeling that will be an ALL day affair. Ecklers is selling them for about 32.00 each window seal, is there anywhere else that is cheaper?
I think you'll be happy with the difference, this is how faded mine were compared to the new ones
Yeah I am already amazed comparing the fuel door emblem to the hood emblem. It is like night and day.
But it shouldnt be surprising since all the paint on the car looks fine except the rear end. Its like the previous owner never had a garage door and the rear end stuck out of the garage for 15 years.
