I've thought about it if I could find a donor car for cheap.
I'd want the whole donor car for the wiring, sensors, computer, exhaust, and other essentials.
It will drop in, but the car your putting it into can't have the auto A/C option, as it won't clear the right head. (which mine does, unfortunately. The ZR1 for 1990, had the manual A/C due to this).
If buying this motor only, you'll need to add the cost and trouble of adding/modifying the wiring harness, computer, exhaust, etc, and it turns into a huge job.
By selling your Vette, and buying a ZR1, figure 8k for a "reg" C4 and 25 for the ZR1, that's 17k. Sure, you'd be able do it for less up front, but when you eventually sell the car, you'll make up the difference, or maybe even come out better.... The ZR1 in 10 years will be worth 3 times your conversion.
There an old saying that goes when buying a car, over the long run, it's cheaper to buy a faster car than to make yours faster....
Just my 2 cents worth.....
You would have to change soo much... the AC moves, the PS moves, the alternator, the harnessing... pretty much everything jamun states (except the manual AC thing).
There is no way I am going to do it. I was wondering if anyone ever did or wanted to. No am I going to sacrifice my sweet running LT4 on a risky LT5 project. I would just trade for a Z if I wanted one.
If you really wanted an LT5, the price difference is not very much to sell yours and buy a Z, depending on how many miles your LT4 has. But I'd keep the LT4 due to repair costs being cheaper and much easier to find.
