Accidently took the vette out after placing the top on the previous night for rain. I didn't screw the top on and forgot, guess it was pretty early and I was tired. Well it flew off in the morning on the way to school . I'm a student and I don't feel like paying $1k+, but if I have to I will. Astro tops seem to be around $600 and I'm not sure how the quality is.
In short, money is an issue and I was wondering If it would cost more in the end to get an Astro Top that might eventualy crack or if the weatherstripping sux. I've had a cracked top for about 2 months and its imbarrasing. Plz help!

Try Melrose T Top. They are licensed by GM. Acrylic tops cost $734.00 with excange. Link to:
I purchased an astro top at carlisle 2 years ago. They installed it and I have had no problems. There are some on the forum that have had the opposite/bad experience, but I am not one.
Stay far away from Astro, especially if you like to remove your top often. Their quality sucks. Go with the Melrose as mentioned above.
My two cents...Mine has a lot of minor cracks and I'm going to replace it soon. I've been looking a lot. 85vet is the first time I have heard anything good about Astro. Plus as Silverbrick says about Melrose they are a GM licensee which says a lot about them.

Reason: I should learn to proof read!
Heh, sry for bringing up this old thread again, I'm pretty new here. I think I'm going to go with melrose Thnx for saving me all that astro top trouble I might of had to deal with in the future.

I wasn't taking a shot at you. I was actually being kind of serious. THis does come up. Astro TOps looks like a good option, but as you've read as well, I've heard nothing good abot their quality.

I am suprised that the owner has not heard about the negative comments and offered any defense to our repeated bashing. I have only had dealings with 2 corvette vendor with such poor products. Sadly, Thompson Astro Tops was one of them.

I could get into the reason why, but I won't do it here.
But the reason why is another reason I will never recommend them.
I've been driving down the road and heard the rattling from above and remembered that I didn't bolt it in...Got to the side of the road and got it bolted before becoming a member of the "flying top club"
Don't know what the other's issues are with Astro tops? I bought one for my 92 and they were fine to deal with, reasonable and the top looks like and fits like the original (only no damage).
