A/c clutch is powered by the a/c fuse and the circuit is hot anytime the key is in the run position. Check the black/white wire at the compressor for 12 volts. 25 amp fuse is in the fuse box, passenger side of the dash. If there's 12 volts with key on, jumper the green or ground side to ground. Clutch should engage.
Blower module (did you replace it?) controls the a/c clutch when it gets a low voltage "on" signal from the dash controls. It will only send the signal if the low and high pressure switches are closed. You can check the signal (about 6 volts) at the green/yellow wire at the module with key in the run position and the a/c "on". Post what you find for further help.
I replaced the blower module new for 104.00. I checked for voltage at the blk/wht wire it was 12 but the strange thing about the whole deal is that I checked for voltage at the green wire and it was also 12. I checked for voltage at the grn/yellow and it was 6 to 8. I changed the fuse, it was blown. I can't undetstand why I received a reading from both wires on the clutch. I jumped the green to ground clutch didn't engage I believe it was hot also. I jumped the clutch straight from the battery the clutch engaged AC got cold. Can I bypass the whole system and toggle the clutch from the battery, it's a back yard way of doing it but right now the only other option is the dealer and I don't what that for my 87. I'm open for suggestions.
Both wires should be hot as the electricity passes through the coil, but not to ground, until the Blower Module provides it. Jumping the green to ground should engage the clutch. If you did this and fuse blew, the coil may be on it's way out. I sent you a PM, but you can try to jump the low pressure switch and see if that gets it running.
The fuse did blow the first time I tried to jump the green wire. After jumping every switch pertaining to the AC that I could, I went back and jumped the green wire from the AC clutch again and the clutch engaged, I was surprised. Does this also mean the coil is going bad. I left the green wire jumped because the AC blew cold air so I left it grounded.
After about a month or more of troubleshooting my A/C system and replacing several parts I've come to the conclusion of the problem being my coil on the compressor at this point. Does anyone know where I can find a coil for my A/C compressor or a coil and clutch?
Best price I've found for new is at the Last Detail - www.tld-corvette.com - I'd make sure that there isn't a short in the harness somewhere. Ohm out the ground side from the coil to the module.
Do the same from the fuse (remove it) to the hot side at the coil.
