Default Oil drain plug

I see these oil drain plugs with magnets for picking up any metal slivers.etc. Are these a good thing to have? What size plug would fit the 95 LT1? anyone have a PN ?

I'll let wiser Corvetteers comment, but if you ask me it's not that great. Yeah it'll collect some shavings, maybe. But most of whatever's there is pretty much in suspension and just another good reason to do regular oil changes and/or it's been caught by the filter. Assuming of course the filter is NOT full and the oil isn't going only through the bypass.

It can't hurt and it doesn't cost much.
I have one and changed the oil twice since using it.
I didn't find any metallic particles on it.

It can't hurt, but will it help???
The magnet is so small that it won't pull a lot of metallic debris, but then there shouldn't be much.
Some people run a much larger flat magnet attached to the pan or a curved one attached around the filter.

Those that do... point to this technique being used in industrial and military applications. Those that don't simply say.... never had a problem without one....

For under $5 it's another of those ... what the heck items....

That's pretty much the way I look at it.
I wouldn't replace a perfectly good drain plug with one of these, but if you need a new one, why not?

I've always used those on my cars. Usually there is a very small buid up of metal fuzz. This would help the filter to filter better. You can take your plug and drill a hole in it then glue a magnet in. My car is 1/2''-20 thread. Most places sell them and they are around five bucks.

I use one in my Vette and there is always some very fine metal powder in the magnet when I'm changing oil. Obviously the oil filter didn't catch this stuff and wiithout the magnet it might not come out the oil pan and would continue to circulate in the oil flow. So, in my opinion not a bad product for only few bucks.
