L98 Chip
Is putting a chip in a 1990 L-98 worth the time and money, if so, which one?

John, don't bother with the chip now.
Instead install an AFPR, a low temp T-stat and matching fan switch and bump base timing a little.
If you do extensive air flow mods, like heads & cam, your SD system will likely need a custom chip to tune it right.

I agree, not worth the $$$. I have a Hypertech Thermomaster chip for my '89....should've used it to buy an AFPR instead!!
Every now and then you'll see someone with dyno results indicating that they LOST power. I don't really think that's the case with mine, but I didn't really feel any difference with the SOTP dyno!!

In a chip shootout, Performance Resource chips - out of Fairfield, NJ won by getting 7tenths of a second in the 1/4
Back in 1993, I bought on for my 89 and it DID help - car picked up 5 tenths in the 1/4 over my previous best w/ nothing else changed...
Car went 13.5@105 w/ the chip & exhaust - and a decent tuneup - fresh plugs, wires, etc.
I think it had about 25k mi on it then...
At any rate, besides the better performance, the torque convertor lockup has better control and it drives much nicer!
Fans come on sooner too - so there are other benefits aside from going "faster"
