Default Lights in Hood??

Hello All
Just bought my first vette it is a 94 Aqua Metalic Blue. I am really enjoying it. I do have a quick question. When I have the hood open the lights come on in the hood, I know this is the way they are supposed to work. I am wondering is there a wayyou can turn these lights off. (My friend has a 2004 and his hood lights go off after about 5 minutes) If I have the hood up for an extended period of time 2 or 3 hours will it affect my battery. The reason I am asking is I am going to be adding a lot of chrome to the engine and when I am at show and shines I would like to keep the hood open for an extended period of time. I am new to this board any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

There are wires connected to both underhood lights.
Follow these wires and you will see a connector on each,
Disconnect them.

Maybe you should replace them with mini disco ***** to shine off all the chromey stuff. :bb As was said, follow the wires and unplug them or install your own inline bypass switches.

Eckler's and the other catalogs sell a switch that you can put in line to control the lights manually. I don't have one, but according to the catalog it just plugs in between a couple of connectors.

Radio Shack sells several switch styles that you can use. I put in a pair of rocker-type, they look sorta' factory and I don't think I've turned the lights on since I installed them....
You could just pull the bulbs...

Here's the manual hood lamp switch from Mid America. I have it, works well and easy to hook up.

Does one switch control both lights or do you have to buy 2?

You can also pull this fuse. That way you don't have to leave your weather packs unconnected.

This is the best way to do it. No switch to buy and it only takes 5 seconds to either pull or insert the fuse. Just remember to keep the fuse in the console!!

Though a lot of guys prefer to pull the fuse or unplug the lights I installed the harness from MAM with a switch.
