Don't do it. Your opti is the vented style and a little better set up than the older style. However, it isn't water proof and you will probably cost yourself an expensive repair.
no,its not true, you do however have to be careful you dont want to get sensors like the MAF,and the opti in the front wet.I use a scrub brush, some suds, and really light pressure from a hose and take my time.no probs
Just don't use a water hose or high pressure sprayer under the hood. What I use is a little Simple Green and some rags and sponges to clean it by hand. You do not want to get the Opti wet. Water can cause it to malfunction.
Well now you can wash it but I wouldnt spray it with a pressure washer or indiscriminatly spray water everywere under the hood. I take a spray bottle of slighty watered down simple green and spray each part one at a time. Except the OPti spark I dont spray at or near it... around that area I spray the rag I am wiping with first and wipe that area down. Then armorall the plastic like the underside of the hood surface and the wheel wells inside and out but I water that down too so it wont get greasy and plus Im cheap and wanna make my armorall and simplegreen last longer. Plus if theres any corrosive chemical action from eaither of those Ill be lessening the effect. Aluminum stuff gets mothers aluminum polish and a light wire brushing or steel wooling if theres any loss of shine. One day Id like to polish the suspension the way some folks do their wheels.
If you wash down an LT1, your wife will leave you, your dog will die, your children will disown you and you will live in filth and squalor for the rest of your natural life. DON'T EVEN SPIT OR **** NEAR THE OPTI!!!!
Just kidding. Not a good idea to get the opti wet. Sorry... couldn't resist.

aboat and eschoendorff, you two are TOO funny. I'm so bewildered about the whole Opti thing, that I don't even breathe near the open engine compartment. I do drive in the rain, however, unlike the prior owners (who seem to have honestly claimed the car never saw rain. Or felt it).

Per Gordon Killebrew, your Corvette HAS been rained on! Each and everyone of them goes through a rain booth to check for leaks. It cannot be released from the factory without this test.

I was being semi-serious. This spring it would be nice and sunny one day and the next the base would be closed for a blizzard. I drive mine everyday. I wash my engine at least once a week and my car runs fine. I do believe that there were problems with the first couple of years worth of OPTIs. I also believe that like everything else GM has done during the last few decade they worked the bugs out during the suceeding production runs and when it was finally right they dropped it and started making something else that was not quite ready for primetime.
However, I don't douche the OPTI, even my old 5.0 would quit running if I sprayed the distributor with High Pressure water at the carwash. High voltage electricity and water do not mix.
Enjoy your car
Mike
