Folks just wanted to mention this, if your a DIY mechanic or just starting to bond with your Vette, purchase a 12v test light and a DVM.
Almost every electrical diagnostic test procedure will at some point call for using a test lamp and sometimes a DVM. We are not talking about a huge investment, I think I picked up a 12v test lamp at home depot for like 4.98.
Just a thought to pass on, and it makes it so much easier when giving out test procedures.
By DVM, do you mean multimeter? If so ... omg this is embarassing... do you know of any place on the web or any book that will outline just how to use one of those things? I have one, but I am only slightly aware of how to use it. :o I need multimeter & electricity 101. Or multimeters for morons. Any suggestions? :o :o :o
Yes DVM (aka multimeter) Digital Volt Meter. They are pretty straight forward to use. Generally there are either push buttons or a rotary dial. Determine which voltage type system your working with and set it to either DC or AC. Then if your going to check continuity (ohms) select ohms (omega symbol I believe) and the range you wish to measure. Test it with the probes apart its open circuit or a '1' put the probes together and it will zero out, closed circuit. A small amount would indicate a partial circuit. If your measuring voltage then set it to volts and the range you wish to measure. Test it but probing a battery and reading the results.
