Default "ASR" — When..... ..... .....??

Being that when you start the LT1, and the "ASR OFF" does not show up
on the dash, I assume that it is used only in "wet weather". When do you
activate the "ASR OFF" (appearing in "red" on the dash panel) — in wet
weather or during normal driving?? Exactly what is this function for?

The ASR automaically comes on and will prevent wheel spin (traction control)

If you push the button and turn it off on the other hand......

What he said. It's always on unless you turn it off. You know when it's activated because the "ASR Active" light will come on the DIC and the gas pedal will kick back at you. I actually like the feature... and I like that it's defeatable if you want it to be.

I start my car with two hands, one turns the key while the other turns the ASR "OFF". I personally prefer Acceleration Slip Regulation to be left up to me. Lots of people however like it "ON".

I think he is asking when one would turn it off. My answer, every time I start the car.

From what I have both read and experienced, the ASR should be ON for safety handling reasons. If you are an experienced driver or else want some controlled rear wheel drift, then you can turn it OFF to PLAY. otherwise, I leave it on/active.

I never use mine, but I happen to enjoy buying new rear tires every 4-6 months. Honestly though... if you just bought your car, I would leave it on for a while as it will keep you from looseing the azz end and plowing into a curb or worse if you aren't ready for what the car is going to do

Leave it on for now... If you find that you're constantly "tripping" it on with your normal driving style,

1) You're driving pretty hard on the streets!

2) You may want to consider turning it off:
2a) when you are comfortable and familiar with the handling of the car, and,
2b) you understand that you *may* one day end up with the nose pointing the wrong direction.

I leave mine on, but I drive pretty gingerly. There are those who will surely chime in claiming that their ASR "almost killed them" when they pulled out in traffic and it kicked on, thus preventing them from being able to accelerate away from the approaching traffic.

Mmkay -

1) If you have to hit the gas *that* hard to merge, you're probably trying to squeeze into a space that's too small anyway, and

2) If the ASR kicked on and "almost killed you," just what do you think would've happened when your tires lit up and the rearend slid around without the car moving forward???

Starting in 1995 the ASR was instant on/instant off meaning that in the middle of spinning tires, you could turn it off and keep spinning where as from 92-94 you had to wait till the wheels stopped spinning before you could deactivate it.

Also the 1995 unit was 16lbs lighter than the previous version.

I leave mine on, especially while driving on a two lane that I'm not all that familiar with.. You know, just in case you get to stupid or to confident.

A simple explanation. Turn it off if you want control of the car. Leave it on if you want the electronic nanny to drive it for you.

I have a special sign that I tape to the steering wheel when I go auto-crossing. It says, "ASR--OFF Camera--ON" I normally leave it on for day to day driving.
