Opinions please..........
Hey all,
I'm looking at a 1994 Coupe with 130k+ on the clock......wondering about a few things......
It has the FX3 option, but it is not working....Chev mechanic says the shocks on it now are for a medium ride....?
It has the G92 performance Axle.....what does that tell me in relation to gas mileage?
Interior is pretty good, with some cracking of the leather seats, but no rips or tears.....
Engine and tranny seem good, all other options work OK, including digital dash....
Could possibly own it for around 8k.....given the above, is that a fair price?
Thanks!
Larry
I don't know much, but a few q's. any carfax done on it? what repairs, replacements done on it? any wrecks? you thoroughly checked everything was working, right? presume this is an automatic; mechanic/you check color and smell of fluid? ph of antifreeze? chev. mechanic--what did he say about the overall condition of the car? shocks, are they stuck in one position or are they replacement el cheapos?
FX3 owners, how much to replace with correct shocks (i'm betting--a lot)?
perf axle won't hurt mileage much, gives you a little better perf. that's all. price doesn't sound bad, about fair if you ask me. others will comment, but I base it on what you've said and if the other q's I mentioned ck out in the positive or plus column (such as opti and water pump already replaced, trans fluid in great shape, etc.). otherwise, you may be looking at some costly repairs, sooner than 50K more miles.
Also, tell us how the car looks, overall. Usually, with 140K miles you can get an impression if it's been beat to death, barely taken care of, somewhat maintained, or very well maintained. Even dealers can't hide all the stuff with that many miles.

Thanks for the good info! So far, I've only talked to the seller on the phone, but hope to make the trip this weekend to inspect it in person....this really gave me some good guidance on what to look for...anybody else have any thoughts, fire away!

The FX3 shocks, if they are not still on the car will cost about $200/each. If they are still on the car, just not working properly about $100/each for Bilstein to rebuild them. If the actuators are bad those will cost about $300/each to buy new, I don't know if they can be rebuilt. The FX3 is neat when working and if they are broke, they can make you the same way (broke) trying to get them fixed. I hope I don't jinx myself.

If it was me I look for maintenance records. The trans is a little long in the tooth. If its an auto check it out carefully. They average 100 to 135k. Get the car inspected for cooling system problems, opti-spank replacement, tune ups, tires, brakes, etc.
If he didn't maintain it it could be a costly purchase.
