Stereo question? Help
My question is do I have to bypass all of the factory equiptment and run new speaker wire to all the speakers? The connectors that plug into the factory head unit appear to plug into a devise behind the head unit. What is this devise? It's a silver box but in such a compact area, I cannot inpsect it close enough to tell anything about it. I bought a $40 harness that is a Bose ampintegrator w/tuner pack bypass kit. There are alot of wires in this kit. I have not opened the plastic package in case I need to get a refund. My stereo is not a bose and that is another concern of mine. Does it matter that mine is not Bose?
Sorry about my ignorance, This is my first post.
The factory Delco systems are different then the bose. The signal is powered by the reciever module in the dash.
If I remember correctly, GM had the reciever in the dash, then moved it to the storage bin, then moved it back! I am not 100% sure how that all transpired. That's the only explaination I have for the "silver box" that everything plugs into.
However, for ease, and sound quality, I would run new speaker wire. The factory stuff is junk, really, and is getting older now. Also, the old stuff has harness connectors that you would need to remove to make work properly on your new speakers. This way, you can maintain the originality of the GM system for future generations.
This is the harness kit you need:

I would simply take power, ground and memory off of it and use new speaker wire.
Also, you must get an extension for the antenna.
