Clear Coat Problem
The clear coat on my '84 is coming off. I imagine some of you have had that same problem. I'm thinking about trying some very fine wet and dry and then maybe rubbing compound. As you can see I don't know much about restoring the finish. I could spend several thousand on a paint job. But I thought I may try it myself.
Any thoughts???

You can try some sandpaper to stop the spread of the clear coat coming off but you are foregoing the inevidable of having to repaint the car or the panel that is affected 
. Your car was painted with base coat (not shiny at all) and a clear coat finish. Polishing the paint underneath isn't going to do much. Sorry for the bad news.

I'm keeping it under wraps when not in use. It's not that the clear coat is fading, it is peeling. The thing is, the side panels look great. The dark gray secondary color is in good shape. I am considering just having the light gray painted and leave it at that - for the time being.
