Default Air Conditioning blues

Hello,
I have a 1991 L98 and the AC appears to need charging. It blows out but not too cold. I had it charged at local goodyear place about six months ago. Worked fine at the time. I think I have a small leak maybe in hose. What type of freon should I use for this system. I have heard of the "134A" , was the correct type to use. Anyone out there can confirm this or suggest anything. Your suggestion is much appreciated.
Thanks
Jack

Pre1993 uses R12 (no longer made in the US nir imported)1993+ uses R 134. If you have a leak, have a shop confirm it and where it is. If the system will have to be opened up to fix it, now's the time to switch over to 134.

You can still purchase R12 (I recharged mine with it this summer) but it's more expensive than R134a. If I were you, I'd bite the bullet, find the leak, then top it off with R12 again.

It'll blow much cooler than R134a on those humid days and your compressor shaft and seals will last much longer since R12 under pressure spins slower than R134a.

Be sure and replace the dryer/accumulator, too.

Good luck on your recharge. I just had my "recharged" and learned that I had a leak (condensor) $931 at the dealer. They said it was 7 hours labor hope your outcome is better than mine. oh, and they converted to 134a.
