Since the vette is only out on nice days, and I have the top out and/or windows down, I've not used the climate control at all this summer. Last fall when I picked up the car, it had ice cold AC. I tried the AC last week, and no cold air. While playing around with the controls trying to see if I had it set incorrectly (I have the automatic unit), I noticed that the green indicator light above each button would blink. I shut the car off, started it back up, and they still blink. Even in the off position. Everything still seems to work, ie: where it directs the air, floor/vent/defrost, I get heat when I set the temp high, and the fan controls work. So actually outside of no AC, and the blinking lights, everything seems to work correctly. And to make it more interesting, the blinking lights will stop blinking and stay on (normal) on its own.
Is it possessed? Am I missing something obvious? I've read the manual and see nothing that relates to this situation.
Just about every car with the electronic climate control will have it blink at one point or another. Mine has been blinking for a few years now (since '99). It all works. You need to remove the unit and clean the contacts usually. Did you see if the compressor clutch is engauging? If not jump the low pressure cut off switch with a paperclip and see if it does. Could be low on freon
I just recently made this repair. You need to remove the center cluster bezel, the console auto plate and theinstrument speedometer bezel as well. Be very careful with the speedo bezel as the upper right hand plastic is thin and easy to crack. There are 4 screws holding the electronic Climate control (ecc) in, remove them. The pull it out and undo the wiring harnass. There are two clips holding the face plate on...remove them with a very small screw driver by prying them off. Your now on the inside so to speak! The unit is basically a circuit board...remove the two lights carefully not touching them and clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. Reverse procedure to reinstall. Afterward your lights will be much brighter and the flickering will cease. Good luck!
