Shock absorber question....
Can somebody give me some info on shocks please. I noticed the other day, that my 91 has Bilsten shocks. I thought those shocks were for the Z51 Suspension Package, and I wasn't aware that was an option in 91. Thanks!

My '91 had the factory Bilsteins as well. The "soft ride" suspension came with them, tuned for a more plush ride. I replaced mine with KYB's all around and have been very pleased with the difference in road handling and ride quality.

Bilsteins became standard on FE1 base suspensions in `89.
Z51 was not available in `91. The heavy duty suspension was only available on the Z07 package in `91, which has the FX3 adjustible shocks.

Bilstein makes shocks for the Z51 and for the standard C4. Bilstein shocks are much more expensive than KYB's. If you search long enough, you can get Bilsteins all around for about $250, maybe a little less. You can get KYB's all around for about $125 if you look long enough. Bilstein is a better shock, but the ride is a bit firmer. KYB is an excellent shock and comes with a lifetime warranty. I had KYB's all around on a 66 Mustang that I used to own. It is a damn good shock. I opted to go with Bilstein for my Vette because it's a better shock and I wanted one of the best. But don't get me wrong, KYB's reliability and the way it makes the car handle is top notch.

It is my understanding that ALL C4's came with Bilstein shocks...albeit differently valved. I know the later C4's did.
Correct me if I'm wrong...
