Replacing Starter on 89 conv.
Are there any pitfalls or headaches that I need to plan for when replacing the starter (is it shimmed etc). Any tips would be appreciated - 89 convertible. Also where is the solenoid located (on the starter?)

Solenoid-Yes. Make sure and disconnect battery; the starter is heavy! If you have an auto it will probably drop on the trans lines (give your armS a break. You can then bend the lines out of the way and "twist it through. Good luck

I replaced the starter on my 86 (several times). On jacks, but it was not fun. It was incredibly tight and the starter just came out. If you like 3D puzzles...

If you have headers on your 89 you may need to loosen or remove the passenger side header to remove starter I have to on my 89!
