I assume thats some kind of traction control?..today I goosed the throttle going around a corner on some sandy pavement and the gas pedal pushed my foot just about off of it...is this normal?
Yep, that's the ASR working. The little light on the information center will come on too, "ASR Active". I call it "the nanny". I drove with it off for the first time about a month ago. Believe me, its a totally different experience driving with it off.
Auto Slip Regulation or somethig like that. Just a fancy way of GM saying traction control. It will save most from losing it when whipping around a corner

Acceleration Slip Regulation, good thing to have though in snow, sometimes you are better off with it off depending on how deep.(and what kind of tires you have and 99% of us don't have proper snow tires)
For normal everyday driving it's best to leave it on. You will hear stories about how someone tried to shoot across an intersection and ASR kicked in and the car bogged and they almost got creamed by the other car, well, I say if you had to accelerate that quickly in the first place, maybe you should have waited until it was clear.
I very rarely have ASR kick in when I'm going in a straight line or from a standstill.

I had that experience right when I got mine, too. Now I drive with it off all the time...not because I like to fish tail around every corner, but because I hate having my foot get bounced off the gas pedal!

Here we go again, I always have to throw my $.02 in. I like to drive my car myself, so I turn it off. If I want the car to drive for me I will take the train.

That's a perfectly legitimate opinion, however it is just that. Sometimes circumstances beyond your control can happen and you need to be able to press the go pedal and get out of the way.
I know I'd be dead today had I been t-boned by the delivery truck who ran a traffic light one foggy morning. The only reason I am alive is that my traction control was off and fast throttle movement allowed me to slide the rear of the car out of the way.
The best advice that can be given is to drive it in the way YOU are the most comfortable with it. IMHO the traction control has caused me more problems than it has ever solved.
This is one of those things that people will argue about forever, the good part is that nobody is right, nobody is wrong. Just do with it what YOU want to do.

I agree. The only time mine has ever kicked in is when I deliberately tried to make it activate.
Do most of you guys experience tire spin every time you drive??
Huh, ASR on my car kicks in way too early, perhaps it vaires from year to year and car to car? I can't take a tight corner without the "dummy" light coming on. I'll turn it off for an autocross, if I want to play, of if it annoys me; but for the most part I leave it on. It does work well in the rain too, and it may have saved me from ending up in a ditch off a country road.
