You would have to bypass the clutch safty switch, then the rest should be fairly easy. An ideal remote start device would detect if the car is in fact in neutral or not.

I have one in my daily driver, allows me to heat the car up in the winter before leaving for work. Also handy on hot days to cool the car off with air before entering. I use it alot. I hate getting into a cold car in the morning. Even if it is in the garage it gets mighty cold in these parts. Have you been enlightened?
My aftermarket alarm / keyless entry came with a remote start so why not install it?
It is wired through the parking brake so it won't start unless the parking brake is on. It bypasses the clutch safety switch when the remote start is used, otherwise it works normally. Unfortunately I have not found a good way to detect if the car is in neutral or not so I just always leave it parked in neutral with the parking brake on. That actually works since my Vette parking brake actually works. Wouldn't work so good on some vehicles I've driven.

The remote starts the engine, does it also turn the climate control on?
Can you choose between heat and A/C on the remote fob?
('d like to have my car cooled down before I open the door, too...)

no you have to have the ac/heat set where u want when you shut if off so when it starts it goes back to the last setting. i just want to to cool of the car in the summer here in florida and to let the motor warm up a couple mins before i get in it and go

I see. I guess it won't work on mine; the electronic climate control always defaults to OFF when I shut the ignition off...I have to turn the ECC to ON (by pushing buttons) after I start the car.
Oh, well...I guess I'll keep doing it the old way. Thanks!

Maybe maybe not, it depends on what you're wanting. Are you wanting to cool the car down in the summer or warm it up in the winter?
If you're wanting to cool it down, you're right you're completely hosed
If you want to warm it up though there could be some benefit. Although the heater wouldn't be actively heating the cabin the engine could still be warming up so that when you get to the car you actually have some heat when you get in the car and turn on the heater or defroster.
I had given some thought about putting one on my wife's 5spd Mustang GT, but knowing the track record for Ford parking brakes and the fact that our driveway is a steep downward incline, I've talked myself out of it.
I fail to see the reason for installing a remote starter.
Can anyone enlighten me?

Guess in the wintertime, it helps to get the car running so the heater works when you go out to drive away.
But there is a down side to comfort like that. In Tacoma, WA the city passed an ordinance making it illegal to leave a car unattended with the engine running. Last winter the rate of car thefts were up substantially because people went outside to start their cars then run back in to wait for the engine to warm up. Car thives would cruise neighborhoods looking for cars that were running and nobody in them. They would simply open the door and drive away.
The city PD had cruisers out in neighborhoods looking for the telltale sign of condensation from exhaust pipes and empty cars and the officers would go up to the house, knock on the door with their citation books in hand. The fine was pretty stiff, over $200!

That's odd, what year's your LT1? I usually turn off everything before shutting my car off. But If I forget, my climate control's always set and running wherever is was set at before. Mine's a '95.
