Default How much drivetrain noise is "normal?"

Ever been in a full-size Ford? Ya know that tranny / drivetraine whine that they all make? Well, ever since I bought the Vette, I have noticed drivetrain noise (changed pitch with speed), but have always thought that A) it was normal... these cars are Vettes and don't have as much soundproofing and are more visceral in general or B) it is a lot of tire noise. I have 3 y/o Goodyear GSCs on it.

Any opinions?

Hopefully it is tire noise. Stock diff's are pretty darn quiet.

Yeah, did some roadtesting and there's definitely some tires noise there. I think that I may have a little play in my driver's side rear wheel bearing. If I check it with the entire car in the air, there's a little play. If, however, I check it with just the driver's side jacked up, there's no play at all. Weird, huh? Anyone know why this would be?

There's no real tire wear issues, so I'm wondering if maybe it's all in my head. Besides tier wear, what are the consequences of letting a wheel bearing go for a while?

I have seen wheel bearings seize up and spit the rim off a car in a few seconds notice. If it is loose, and tightening the 36mm bolt to the proper spec does not take away the movement, swap it soon.

My six speed whines like a freakin Muncie transmission in the lower gears, and it used to have me counting down the days until transmission replacement. I did a little research, and found out that the ZF6 "Black Tag" transmissions were a much heavier duty transmission than the "Blue Tags", therefore, accounting for the "gear whine" in the lower gears. Once I got used to the noise, I don't even hear it anymore
