a new appreciation

i always referred to her as the pig. the nickname is only partially my fault. i bought the car while on chemo and a lot of pain meds--the result was a salvage title and a clank in the engine bay that was only silenced by a low price.
i dived beyond the busted balancer and found timing gear problems. well, i won't go on. it turned into a huge pain in the *** that sat for three years waiting for a healthy ego and a forum member to generously put it all back together for me.
i worked on piddly sh*t untill the motor was ready to go. i've now finally got it ready for emissions, and then today i decided to wash it. now i haven't washed the car since i bought it. it was always an engineering project--not an aesthetic one. today i washed the pig and it turned into a princess.
i hit the vette with some easy to work blue coral wash and wax, and the pig became a princess. now, i'm probably what you would call a macho guy, but when i started rubbing a fake chamois along the curves of my 85, i started to understand why all those rich dorks were always stroking their expensive sports cars on a sunday. the sh*t feels good. i mean i've washed a lot of regular cars, but this was different--it was kind of sexy rubbing those smooth curves and making them shine. and now i promise i will come up with a new name. may the corvette gods forgive me and grant me good favor.
frog.
p.s. now i only mention my health problems to explain gaps in the time frame between advice and the performance of the suggested repairs.
i only mention this to explain why i even mention my health at all--certain members become angry when you don't post an evaluative response within a particular time. they want to know why it took you so long to post a reponse to their advice. as a logical person, i can understand this, but one particular member suggested that i included this information to elicit sympathy. i find this suggestion deeply offensive.
anyway, i have a new appreciation of my vette. it's 20 years old, but it drives sweeter than anything i've pushed hard before, and now it looks good.

Health issues always place a different perspective on things. But it sounds like things are positive for you currently. What ever the case, enjoy the car knowing that it still looks good running down the road and can still kick *** on 90% of the cars on the road.
Run hard and strong!

Frog Princess wouldn't be such a bad name, or "FP" for short. Just a thought. Glad it's running and working and all. Drive it in good health!
Glad you got her shined up and ready to go and it sounds like you already have a new name "Princess". I hate washing my cars except for this one as you said it just feels good to rub her.

froggy.
Got a better idea: POST it and put a pic underneath it. Matter of fact, start a new thread with it in this section. And you can even ask for what people think about the name.
Then, ask the mods for a new icon, a plane bombing someone or something. Whenever someone writes, "aww, geeeeee, Frog, I don't like that name so muchhhhhhhhhhhhhh...", write their name in a follow up post and position the plane with bombs away above their name!!!!
Ok, get going. We're waiting.
i share in the collective glee for your new-found appreciation
it is indeed a fantastic feeling when its all togther
looking forward to more posts about the great news

i'm gonna have to stare at the former pig for a while to figure out what to call her. i guess you guys know about the study that shows that cars that are named by their owners are better maintained and last longer than cars that are not. i think that is most important for corvette owners since older vettes are not just cars but a piece of high performance automotive americana. beyond the vette, all we have is the mustang and the viper for production performance u.s. cars--niether of which gives the value for the buck that the vette gives. it takes x amount of years and a certain scarcity of units for the market to appreciate the vette body style both aesthetically and financially. i remember a few years ago when no-one would even consider buying a c4 body style--things have changed.

I can give you someone's name who fits all the above categories...Your'e car would probably hate you for it

Pamela?
Selma?
Catherine Zeta?
You get the jist?

Glad to hear everything's on the upswing. Let's see, a high maintainance name....Hmmm, Hillary? Naw, that's worse than "pig!"
Princess Penelope, kinda rolls off the tongue.
