Hey C4 Guru's
I have an '88 vette which the clear coat would rather be off my car. Wierd how it flakes off but the body color is still there.
Been to a few body guys and they qoute me like 5 grand to re paint it.
I'm calling bs. I believe I could DA the body down and pay a pro to shoot a good quality primer with a guide coat wet sand that down then shoot color and clear.
Should I give up and pay the 5 g's or do any of you know a way I can fix this for under a grand.
Painting is very labor intensive (I know, I've painted a couple cars in my time), and that is what you are paying for...labor. All told paint only costs me about $370, 1 gallon of primer, 1 gallon of base & 1 gallon of clear. It took me 17 days to do my car, not including the final wet sand and buffing. You wouldn't believe how much time it takes to remove everything from a car...mirrors, door locks & handles, front and rear lights and all of the other trim items. Then double that time to reassemble.
