A few Q's:

After having the tranny replaced, I noticed an acrid stench from time to time and "smoke" coming from under the car. At first I though it was tranny fluid spilled on the exhaust. Now I'm thinking exhaust leak from rehanging my crapy pipes. Comments?

Yesterday I took the car to the shop for a checkup and free oil change, but the drive up lift is occupied and they didn't want to use their standard lift on the car, so I took it home later in the day. I stopped at the post office and the car wouldn't idle. I could start it and keep it running by barely touching the throttle (it's happened before). I didn't feel like disconnected the MAF sensor and seeing if it would run then (as per the helms manual). I got it home by keeping my foot on the gas at the only stop sign on the way home. Turned the car off in the driveway and it fired up again like nothing happened.

I remember somebody saying to check for vaccum leaks a while back for something I posted (I forget). Well yesterday as I was screwing around I was listening and fiddling with things and noticed a hissing sound, I asked what this was before and forgot:

I need something to hold it on and would like to just replace the busted clip.

Yesterday I saw an early model C4 with the C5 rear bumper kit. There was trim around the doors that looked like my greenwood kit. It through me for a second because it didn't look righ and then it hit me. I looked at pretty closely and the worst part about the kit was that the rear looked flimsy, kind of ripply, know what I mean? Also he had a C5 type exhaust, but the pipes were way skinny and stuck out too far. Other wise the car looked stock in the front at least. My thoughts: If a similar product with a higher quality kit was installed it would look okay, not horrible, but okay. I liked the fact that it was different. The only thing that amazed me was that the window was rolled down with no one around, a aftermarket cd player installed and parking on a back parking lot of a college campus

I'm still planning on getting the straigh pipe set from Mid America and installing them with the mufflers I have. Anyone know what it involves, beyond just hanging and welding? How about using them with some LT headers? I've noticed a few sets lately going for about $100, but I think most of them say that you have to modify the AC braket (?), but don't quote me.

I think that's enough for one post

nothin huh? soooo.... crazy weather we're having huh?

yup.

what shape would a wing on a car need to be to create lift instead of down force? Turn it upside down? That would be funny to do to someone, not to make them fly, but to see if it would rip it off?

ummm... why does michael jackson like twenty eight year olds?

I guess ttt would have suficed, but that would be boring.

So I was reading the other day about the '78 and it said that the optional CB radio started to decline and it was last offered in the '85(?), with only 16 vettes having it installed at the factory, anyone own one of those rares? anyone seen one? :

this is probably the longest single person thread in the history of the forum.

are there clear corners made for the c4? ya know, instead of having the amber on the sides for the turn signals?

I think you're right...

As far as that exhaust system- if you look at my webpage (the link under my user name to the left), you can see how it looks from underneath my car. I actually got the kit from Corvette Central, because they weld in an H pipe.

Thanks for the response. When I get the car checked out on Tuesday, they're going to check the exhaust and hopefully put it on correctly. I told the guy that if it can't be fixed I'll probably put the true dual pipes on myself, since a shop couldn't do it. He hasn't been up here for long and asked how I would get away with emissions testing and so I told him that we only having testing on trasfer of the vehicle and that it's illegal for him to do the work. He thanked me for letting him know. DAMN! Otherwise I could have had him do it, instead of me scrounging for a place with a lift to do it, since the car isn't exactly jack friendly.

Anyone else with a greenwood kit have problems with jacks? It looks to me like the kit covers the jacking points. On a similar note, does the kit cover the bottom screw for the 'gill' panels?

Anywho, since participation in this post is low, I'll add some more pics:

Good point -- I overreacted. But, maybe this would have attracted more comment in the Tech/Perf section?

After all the preamble I should ask: "What was your question?"
To ask one of my own,What is all that mess beside your AC comp? If you are flaunting emission laws as I am you can clean up your engine compartment by trashing the smog pump and all associated plumbing as well as the plenum heater piping.
You jack a Greenwood very carefully by a jack that will reach underneath to the frame, such as it is. Yes the "gills" go away, on mine at least. Changing a battery becomes a day long operation.

I bought the mid america dual exhaust in 1992. It has been installed ever since. With stock manifolds, it is a direct bolt in that fits like a glove. Love the cat pic

I know we've talked about these things before, but was the an problem with sensors or anything? Did you remove the smog pump or anything else? Any welding? If it's just a "bolt in place" job I may be doing it sooner than I was planning

That's what I'm trying to figure out!

Does that little thing effect performance very much? I don't know if it's a vaccum connection or what, but it seemed like the vette really wanted to come alive today, whereas before I couldn't really compare. It could just be the fact that I've been driving my 4 banger all week too!

On my 87, nothing special needed. no welding etc. There is no provision for the fresh air tube that normally attatches to the converter. I simply removed it. When I added headers at a later date, I had to fab up collectors. On stock manifols, bolt on and go.
