For the last 4 years in mighty cold South Dakota I have stored my vette in an unheated pole barn with carpet on the floor. Throw some dryer sheets in the interior and put some steel wool in the exhaust pipes. I wax it up before she goes, change the oil and filter, fill the tank with gas and add some stabil. Once she is in the barn I remove the battery and take it home with me and put my $21.99 car cover from Wal-mart on there and she hybernates for the winter. She starts right up every time and gets a nice bath in the spring and I'm ready for the summer. I never have gotten the part about starting it and letting it run for a while and then put her back to bed? Just doesn't make sense to me but to each his own. I know those folks in the warmer climates are saying the same thing about me....."I just don't understand why you would put it in a barn for the winter"?

Birthday present. They came from Harbor Freight and allow me to roll the car around to different spots in the garage. It takes 2 people to push the front around though due to the weight of the engine.

Be very picky when buying these things. Some come with casters like at Harbor Freight and work okay to move a vehicle for and aft, but neigh impossible to turn without assistance from other(s). If you are going to purchase these skates, pay the bucks and get the good ones with roller bearing wheels and the wide ramps (11"). You'll be a happy camper years to come!!

Thanks for the input. Being originally from Sioux Falls I know it gets mighty cold there also. I think I will take your advice and use the same proceedure you use.

Default Rodents (read MICE) are my biggest headache...

I live out in the country, and after the first freeze the war is on!

Decon is pretty pathetic, IMO . The best thing I have found to keep the buggers controlled (somewhat) is this stuff called "One Bite" I get from a farm/feed store. About a pound of it around the walls - behind stuff (where the pooches can't get to it) and one stick on the floor on the drivers side, w/ a sticky trap and some peanut butter in the center for bait.

The problem w/ bait inside the car is it attacts vermin too . But, I've tried NOT putting bait in the car too, and trust me, it is better to bait than not to.

I hate cats, but maybe I can rent one of my neighbor's cats for the winter...as long as he takes it back, come spring!

I put some Victor traps around as well - traps get a few too, but the real breakthrough in my annual battle against mice has been the One Bite stuff.

I have to leave the garage door open so the pooches can get out of the weather (heated beds). Unfortunately, the mice come in then too.

I dunno. What works for youz guys?

Sorry Paul Workman I wouldn't put any of that in my car! Dryer sheets are the best defense for the interior. By a box and use the whole box if you want. On the seats, in the console, in the hatchback area, on the dash......whereever! No need to put any bait at all in the car. No sense in attracting those little b#stards! Wal-mart has a good kind for a whopping .99 and they work just fine. I even put them on the motor around the wires and shut the hood. I haven't seen a trail nor hide nor tail of those things next to my car and this is a barn out in the middle of no-where in a corn field.

Well, alrighty then! I'll give it a try! I never heard of dryer sheets, but like you say, they are cheap enough, and I'll put the bait outside. We'll see what happens.

I agree w/ not wanting to bait the inside of the car, but my rodent problems immediately subsided after I relented and put the dang stuff in there. W/o it, the little SOBs were taking up residence - making me absolutely livid, but outside baiting just wasn't getting me there. Kinda damned if I do, and damned if I don't, I recon. (BTW, that One Bite is NASTY stuff. My machine shed was infested w/ mice after they discovered the 40# sacks of bird seed set in the corner, and I mean infested! 1# of the stuff was devoured in about 2 days, so I put out another pound. They only finished 1/2 of that, and suddenly there was no more munching on the bars of the stuff for the entire winter. Never saw another mouse or even signs of them after that.

Thanks for the headzup. I'll bait the outdoor perimeter area and dryer sheet the interior and under the hood. I'll post the results in about a couple months when the first wave of the little bastards are due!
