The install is not that hard, but some what time consuming. It helps if you drop the exhaust and if you have access to a lift. The stock **** will work, but I went with a black Hurst **** on mine. Unfortunately I don't have any pics of the ****.
I have the hurst and a flameball shift ****. Look at my pics to see. The picture is not the greatest, but I really do like the shifter. Mine is the usa flameball. Check out the following site: www.flameball.com.
The shifter isn't hard... it's just a pain in the ***! It's best saved for when you do a clutch. Expect about 3 hours to do it with the tranny in. About 30 minutes with the tranny out...
The factory **** works... and hurst now makes round *****! I have the white one with black "H" pattern.
with Bogus, if you have plans to drop th etranny for any other reason, the install is a snap.
We did four shifters in one day at Rex Ruby's house. Didn't take long since we had one guy in the car and another under the car while it was up on the lift.
The hardest part is getting the pin lined up and back in.
Obviously this will be your first time. So...that being said...it is a pain in the butt. Expect more than three hours and absolutely take off your exhaust. Once you do it once, and learn all the little "tricks", THEN it isn't that bad!
Yes, the stock shifter **** works. That is what I used. I like the "stock" look myself. That's not to say that the aftermarket ***** aren't cool, and there are certainly plenty to choose from!
No matter how much of a pain it is, it is 100% worth it. That shifter makes the car shift the way it should have from the factory! Much more fun to drive!!
man that figures i just put my new exhaust on if i would have known this i would have held off till i got the shifter guess i'll do it when i put in the new clutch thanks for all the good info guys
Larry, you probably saw this photo before, its mine......Hurst shifter with the classic black ball Hurst ****:
cicch95 is right....the feel is much better than stock. the throw is 30% shorter (stock is tooooooo long), and its perfect for the street. plus you'll actually get to see your radio again.
personally, i like the feel of the ball **** much better than the stock ****. it fits the hand better, the shift is always sure, and all around feels a ton better. imho it just looks better too.
that $81 is one helluva deal for that shifter when i bought mine last year, it was $109 on ebay.
enjoy! it WILL be well worth it

The install is about a 5 on a scale from 1-10. A Helms Manual and their instructions will get you through it. It's much easier if you drop your exhaust. But it's worth every minute of your time, blood , and sweat.
As you can tell, I went with the Hurst ball (old school in me) and yes the stock **** will work fine.

i just bought a set of helms manuals so i guess i will get my use out of them as i will be putting in my new centerforce clutch and flywheel and will drop my exhaust then i would say it is much easier with the tranny on the bench

With the tranny out of the car the Hurst install will be a piece of cake. Now getting the tranny out of the car, that's a whole different story.
