Hi im 17 and i recieved a 93 corvette for a present but i love it only prob is its auto i want stick but i have a question. when im messing around with my friends is it bad to use 1 and 2 then to squard D?, whats the difference between the squard D and just the D? i can go to higher rpms then letting it go automatically and no i dont nutral drop that bad lol.
Congrats on the vette! yep do not neutral drop it as you know... the 700R4(4L60) is not the strongest trans ever made, it will hold up if you treat it right. Vettes are not cheap even if you do all the work yourself, parts are still more expensive then let's say a camaro or firebird. Because it's a vette..
Like said before driving under 55 or 45 leave it in D, for above [D] less stress on the 3/4 clutch pack which is one of the weak points in these trans's manual shifting is fine, for up shifts but I wouldn't be down shifting aggressively with it. That's my .02'
If there is anything you need help with let me know. As I'm in IL as well.

My original A4 had over 100k miles and shifted smoothly before the 1st rebuild 5yrs ago. This spring I lost the 3-4 clutch pack and needed a complete rebuild, this time with performance parts to the tune of $2,100. Of course I drag race my Vette, and "use" it occasionally too.
What kind of power is yours capable of taking now? And how would you rate its strength "on paper" against a BTO stage 3 for example? i just had the one in my 94 fully rebuilt and went with everything as strong as i could get while maintaining a decent ride while driving calm, the bloke that owns the shop that did it all says 600-650 no worries. Mine is close to the same if not the same as the BTO stage 3.....
I'm not sure about the BTO setup but my latest rebuild got hardened clutches.
I'm putting about 270-300hp to the crank and high 300x for TQ.
That's not really a lot of torque but I'd put around 45k miles on the prior rebuild with a lot of passes down the 1/4 mile and later some severe driging in 2nd gear around local twisties. I think the latter romps may have overheated the A4 fluid as I could smell it when stopping for a short break.
