I have an 89 A4 with 118K miles. I will be replacing my wheel bearings and u-joints soon (some minor clicking) and all the rubber bushings. What is the general opinion regarding greaseable vs non-greasable u-joints?

I replaced th 91's rear ujoints at about 108,000 along with the rear wheel bearings, they did not have grease fittings. I replaced with the same. I don't see a difference in the time a ujoint goes based on greasable or nogreasable and I don't have to get under the car to add grease from time to time.

But either way you will do just fine.

You want Spicer Cold-Forged U-joints, with no zerk fittings.

Get ONLY these joints.

You can find them at Tom's Differentials, website is same or similar.

Went to Tom's Differentials, but now "The Gear Shop" is handling the business. Non-zerk fitting Spicer u-joints:

5-786X is the number for the driveshaft u joints

SPL30-2X is the number for the half shafts.

I have a '92 6 speed, thats what the numbers are, I imagine they are the same , but I'm not 100% on that!

When labor is high and parts are low, buy the best parts you can afford.

I got mine from Gary at the Gear Shop in Paramount, CA
