Default Will this hurt the paint

How bad is tree sap on the paint if it sits on there for a few days?

Thanks for the info,
Jay

I never got any on my vette, but I did on my 1995 Blazer and after leaving it there for weeks, iit ruined the paint & depending upon the type of sap this could be a problem for you too. I would get it off right away. In some cases I had to use like a 3M adhesive remover spray to get it off. Good luck.

You should get it off as soon as you can as it will eat into the finish eventually. WD-40 or mineral spirits will remove tree sap. Make sure you go over the area with a clay bar and whatever wax or finish that you use as the WD-40 or mineral spirits will remove that too.

It really depends on how big the spot is. Also, if it has been baked on in the sun. There are sap removers in the auto section that claim to work. I have always just kinds picked it off the paint with no damage caused. Good luck.

I had a Honda (I hate to admit it) that had gotten tree sap on the hood. It ate straight through the clear coat and seriuosly discolored the spots where it had landed. Remove it Asap (get it?)

Use a clay bar to remove it and save yourself the effort of using sprays to remove it. Simple back and forth motion and its off in no time.

agreed, remove that stuff sooner rather than later. once i had some tree sap on my hood, went to my local auto parts store and got a can of "turtle wax bug & tar remover".......worked like a charm

Tree sap is a bitch to get off. The only thing I've found that works well is alcohol. Forget stuff like Goo Gone, it won't remove it if it's been there awhile. I just did my wife's Grand Am this weekend and I spent a good hour rubbing the spots off.

Well I washed it Saturday and left it in the driveway. She was only there a few hours and it got sap all over it. It's very, very light. You can't see it at all, but if you rub your hand across her you can feel it.

Bummer! I agree - clay bar, then a couple of coats of wax. Don't leave it on too long, as it will discolor your paint.

The best way to remove tree sap , is to use turpentine,
Soft cloth reb gently.

Then polish.
