Here's a question. Were the 84-89 C4's max-wired? By max-wired I mean there was just one wiring harness or the same sets of wiring harnesses installed in all cars so accessory options could be installed by the dealer without splicing into the factory wiring. I remember my 87 Firebird was max-wired, but I don't know if they did the same for Corvettes.
I am interested in adding a new rearview mirror with map lights to replace my aging one without the lights so a max-wired system would be most helpful and time saving.
I believe that 86 was the first year for the map light in the mirror and I think, but I'm not sure, it was standard on the vert. My 86 coupe does have the wiring there for it, so you may be right that there was one harness.
For the '89, I'm going to guess it's yes and no. The a/c harness will be different for electronic or manual air, but the fuel pump harness contains an extra wire for the ZR1 pump - even though it never made it into production. The best source seems to be the wiring schematics at the end of the shop manual. Wish I could fully understand them, but it shows a lot of wiring that isn't included in the electrical section (8A). It's the only way I've been able to figure out a couple of the wires.
I looked it up last night and didnt see it included in the wiring diagram, so I am guessing it wasnt an option. But hell with it, I want it installed anyway.
Does anyone have a link to the wiring diagram for the 86 convertible, etc. that shows the mirror wired in? There are 3 wires that come out of the mirror and I want it to work as it would have from the factory, not to mention saving the guesswork of what wire is what. Also, for those of you that have the lighted mirror, does it come on with the interior lights or does it stay dark? If it stays dark, wiring it would be easier.
