Emissions setup
While shopping for parts for my early 86 they are always asking for California or non-California. How do I tell the difference?

Other than an assembly line sniff (which is what the build code represents), there aren't any differences in equipment. The aftermarket smog parts though have to be CARB (California Air Resources Board) certified and I'd guess that's why you're asked the question (meaning that if it is, it's going to cost you more).
