There have been plenty of posts on this subject, so a search will produce plenty of info. Basically, it's a 4 speed manual trans with an electrically controlled automatic overdrive unit bolted to the back of it. The 4 speed is a variation of the Borg-Warner Super T-10 that was used in Vette's for many years. It was produced on Borg-Warner tooling by Doug Nash and mated to a Doug Nash overdrive unit. Some people don't like them, but many others are happy with them. I love mine! 
It's been modified so the overdrive works only on demand. I use it like a 5 speed.

not to hurt any feelings but i feel as if it is only right to put my 2 cents in.......my 4+3 burned up and there was no way i was going to repair it. i spent a fortune on a keisler 5 speed and have been very happy with it since. i would avoid the 4+3 unless i didnt mind changing the thing out. the good news is that the automatic trannys are more fun than you might think, even if you are a manual man.
