Tire Questions
I am ready to buy new tires for my 95 vert..everything I look at has listings for coupes and verts seperately..are the tires different? Also since I am an old fart,I will never drive this car at it's top speed or go into a corner way to fast..I use it about 5-6 months out of the year, just love to cruise and smell the roses, any tire recomendations..thanks
Coupes and verts often, not always, had different wheel sizes from the factory. Certain options, such as Z51 and Z06, were limited and / or not available on verts. There is a lot more to these variations about availability but that's the basic premise. There were quite a bit of changes as to what was restricted to coupes and it varies from year to year in some cases.
If you are looking for a tire recommendation, I would suggest Goodyear. I love the ride and quality of the tire. They do wear out faster, but with your driving, should last a long time.
Good luck,

The cost is 50% less than Goodyears, and they're ZR rated. I do the same type of driving you do, maybe less miles/year, so I can justify the cheap-way-out price. Plus, they look nice (rain tread pattern - inverse V)

Look at the tire sizes on it now (if original and not changed) should give an indication of rim size. I have bfg kdw g force and like them, but if you are looking at bang for buck the Kuhmo many on this forum have them and is a good choice and I think if $$$ isn't the issue Michelln pilot sports or maybe the goodyear super c would be hard to beat.

Paid a bit more than that for mine from a Goodyear store but I really like the tire. Very quiet and good performance both dry and wet. I haven't done any autocrossing or anything like that on them but they hold quite well in the mountain twisties here in Colorado.
I am going to buy a new set of shoes for my 89 and they are going to be Toyo tires. They cost about $200 each after the install and balance process. I just put a set of Toyos on the mini-van (do not tell anyone that I drive such a car to work
) and they are the best tire that I have driven on. This is for smooth ride, handling and wet traction.

I've also had good luck with Bridgestones. Firestones I wont buy.
I had Toyos on another car they're made in China. Hit a parking chock and the sidewall blew out.
I've never bought Goodyears good tire but to much money for me.
If money were no option I'd buy Michliens.
By "old fart", I assume that you are over 80 years old. If not, then you will end up putting the pedal to the metal. I love the Goodyear F1 GS-D3. If money is a concern, get the Kuhmo's.
I'm running kumho ecsta supra 712's on a 86 coupe with z51, and i have to say they are pretty good, you can do all corners at twice the posted limit, and some at three times the limit. However you do need to watch out for the 3-d's....deer....ditchs and deputys!! joe
I recently put Kumho Ecsta 712's on my 87. They handle well, ride soft and look good! The only downside is that they are narrower than the Cooper Cobras I replaced. Everything I have read has been positive on this tire.

I've been looking at what tires to put on our 94 LT1 Coupe within the next year or so.
Here's a few points I plan on considering.
Once we increased the tire pressure on our OEM Goodyear GSC EMT's to 33 all the way around, the tires rode very well and much smoother, albeit still just a little bit noisy, but so much better than at 30 psi, I was amazed (bought them last year used with rims with only 12k on them and have brand new selective Ride shocks all around).
The write-ups on the Goodyear F1 GS-D3's replacements seem to put them in the same class as the GSC's, albeit quieter and I believe still available as EMT (zero pressure) tires.
The Michelin Pilot Sports on our 2000 Pontiac Trans-Am have been great, nice and quiet and great in the rain (n/a since you may not ever drive your vette in the 'rain' -
) albeit the very center tread band is wearing away faster than the rest of the tire (by about 1/8" versus the rest of tread -- as if over inflated -- but they have not been -- odd, thankfully this hasn't affected the traction, noise or ride).
Do you have a spare tire (at some time Vettes stopped having them)?
If not, you might want to consider staying with an EMT (zero pressure) tire, just in case.
There is a good write-up either here or on the CAC about tires, specifically about the lack of repairability of many EMT (zero pressure) tires if driven with no air (I think only Goodyears were good for 200 miles, one was for only 50 miles, and the rest could not be repaired).
Hope this helps..

I put Toyo Proxies on my 91 Coupe this this summer...17" in front 18" in rear. They are about half the price of Goodyear F-1's which I replaced.
The ride is about the same as the F-1's, don't know about the wear yet.
Since I am also an old fart, I don't drive very fast very often. I had it at 126 MPH at the Michigan International Speedway before the IRL race in late July.
