Default Stalling, dash light gremlins

Soon after driving off and prior to being fully warmed up I'm stalling at some point. The engine usually keeps running but is unresponsive to the throttle, and after a few seconds or restarting runs ok. Though when it last quit on it's own, the dash lights went off leaving me with only the speedo working. Parked over night they worked the next time I started, but still having the stalling a 1/2 mile away. Once after running fine, parking and sitting a few hours it wouldn't start no way. (turned over and sounded briefly like it wanted to fire) fiddled with all the plugs, fuses (passenger side dash and drivers panels still apart from heater core change) still wouldn't start, then just before I figured I'd call a tow truck it started and ran fine, only the dash lights are out again. Now they seem to come on and off periodically. No check engine light coming on,
Should I get a code if I stick a code flasher on and where might the gremlin be for the dash lights? or might the problems be connected.
I have problems with my heater fan also. it wouldn't turn off ever, even with the ignition off, running full speed and now doesn't work at all. have the info on what to look for (fuses ok) but haven't got around to fixing it. Both rad fans also gone AWOL.
Thanks in advance.
