Well...no mroe supercharged 92. The house that it was stored at went under (bombed by someone who apparently hates my family). My family made it out okay, but no possesions did. Anybody ever had this situation before? What should I do? (I jsut got out of the military, moving to california ina few days-to stay at the house in ca that just burnt down...so me and my family are fckued right now). (this is the only way I can think to be calm)
Wow, I'm speechless. I'm extremely sorry for what happened, but you said everyone made it out okay and that is what really matters. It's been said 1000 times before, cars are replaceable. Did you have insurance?
good news? Well, the family is set up in a hotel, which is nice, and most of the animals are okay (my my runs a repltile adoption thing thing). The fire at the garage, the 2003 Tundra (10k miles), my 92 Vette (EVERY option available-red, supercharged, just broke 400 rwhp the other day-33k miles), my miata (mostly-it was parked in the front of the garage, but the firefighters dropped the garage door on it, and it sat there so long it metled alot of the fiberglass and stuff) the room above the garage (getting a tv, a not so new computer, and some odds and ends. The house is repairable, and the insurance will cover things, but they said I might not get the full amount of the vette. I had the car insured for 18 (should have had more) but they are trying to say it's only going to get book (book on a stock 33k vette might only be 14-ish). Now...I know there are people that have had this experience before-but as far as damage control, dealing the the insruance company, etc etc, what else should I do? I'm still kinda in a state of shcok..but the family is okay, and I'm making the move back there shortly (they are located n California, but I am in Texas seeing my wife off on her turn to go to iraq). I'm glad my family is okay, and I know it sounds bad, but I can't stop thinking about that car. I have never put so many hours into anythin I've owned before, or liked a car I've had so much. Enough about that, though-anybody have any ideas on what I can do as far as damage control. Thoughts?
Did all your receipts and photos of the car go up in flames? If they didnt show them to the insurance adjuster try to let them know there was a reason you had the car insured for 18K. Good luck
Are any of the parts on the Vette salvagable? Is the long block still there? Tranny? You might be able to sell some of the parts to regroup some of the loss. You say someone "Bombed" your house? Let's find him, give him a trial, and hang him. By the way, thanks for your service to our country and tell your wife to stay safe over there.

Anything that proves the amount of work put into the car will help. Insurance adjusters only go on facts. If you can't prove it they will give you book for it. Hope all else turns out well.
Man, that's a sad story, at least your family is OK. Be firm with the insurance co, they may try to lowball you at first, just stay on them!
Once they pay you off, think about looking into a ZR1, there are tons in that price range. I hope you are able to get your life back in order without too much trouble, hopefully they get the losers that did this! Where in Cali?
That's a sad story thankfully it wasn't tragic, if you lost the photos of your engine bay just download pics of similar SC setups off the net, sounds alittle shady but what else can you do, those insurance adjusters only care about protecting their companies bottom line, they will give you as little as possible. As for the degenerate who torched your families home...no need for a trial, find him, then execution
Thanks to you and your wife for serving our great country

Sorry to hear about this. I hope they catch the azzwipe that did this. It could have caused some serious injury or loss of life. That really sucks.
Glad you made it back OK and I hope your wife's tour is safe too.
My advice is to see your Staff Judge Advocate on base and see if they can be of any help with the inevitable lowball offer from your insurance company.
They helped me with some legal problems when I was gone for Desert Storm.
I can check. Didn't have the heart to look at the thing real good-but it barely looked like a car..so I'd be suprised if anything was left. Might be, though. Now...what do you guys think-is the insurance company still going to be shady-the car was specifically insured for 18,000-are they still going to try to give me only book value for it? They don't have any way of telling how many miles I had on it (minus the title) which...I had mentioned that I paid something like 7 on it :/ I've tried tarcking down anybody who had any hands on the vette, and maybe getting some kind of record-what else can I do? I've heard stories of people buying cars on ebay and using the auction to help with the damage-you guys think there's any chance I can do that with this? (i.e. for the parts and pieces). an ati procharger install on a polished ported block among other things is kinda $$. I can honestly say I've lsot the nicest material possesion I've ever owned.
Well, first off, I'm sorry to hear about the fire. I had a fire at a family members house and have been in a similiar situation. The key is to find any piece of evidence you can about the mileage and condition of your Vette. If you have any recent receipts for the procharger, and modifications on the shortblock, you can provide those and they will tack the cost onto the top of the check they cut you for the car. I ocationally have a shop do my oil changes for this same reason, because they record mileage. You can go back to where ever inspected the car to get the mileage then, too. Provide as much documentation about the car as you can.
As far as insuring it for 18k, often there are stipulations for them actually paying out that 18k (like they'll pay UP to 18k if you can provide documents that the car was worth book+mods to be worth 18k etc). It will likely be a decent fight, I hate insurance companies personally.
How much is this car worth-and how much would it cost to copy it?

This car has every option available including: FX3 Suspension Low Tire Pressure Warning System 8-Way Power Adjustable Seats Delco Bose Gold Stereo w/ CD and Cassette
33k miles
Black rims w/ corvette centercaps, new tires, tinted windows, new brakes, blackout kit, grand sport fender flares, and other odds and ends.
I'm going to get an appraiser to look at the pieces. Block might be salvagable, heads might not be, and I might be able to get odds and ends, but nothing major.
2nd question- do I take up a colelciton or soemthing? How do I do that? State Farm wants to try to screw us pretty good-they are such bastards!.
as for the miltiary deal-thanks. Overall, getting a lot of supprot for what we did (good and bad), but things outside that suck someitmes. I grew up with andy and casey sheehan, the mom used to be cool, but turned nuts when her older son bit he. he joined to be in the military with me and my brother, he re-enlisted to go to iraq (he replaced my unit). His choice-but her and her people are always protesting everwhere (even at the VA hospital whe nI was there for a checkup for Iraq-related wounds). Straying off topic, I know-but it always makes me feel good to hear people that appreciate what we did, even if we ourselves don't 100% AGREE with it, we still did it so other people wouldn't have to..
Anyways..please post some more..I'm keeping myself occupied with this in between dealings with snake farm.

Do you have any receipts for any of the parts or work, or were they all lost as well? Start looking at prices for buying a similar optioned and year car to get a base price, don't let the insurance company go by KBB, they'll screw you...tell them you want another one exactly like it. Good luck!
so..with all the mods-I tell the insruance company I want one exactly like it? ( I doubt they'll build another for me) Alot of that stuff went up as well, but I do have an auction from awhile back where I gauged interested and tried to sell it (got bid up to 19,1). Think that'll work? I know it's not much..but damn.

The price you get for the car will be the base price, then you add the totals of any receipts you have for the aftermarket parts. That gives you the best starting point to get the most out of it that you can. Like I said, otherwise they'll use KBB prices which are usually quite a bit lower that true market value.
