Default What brakes

I got a little fiesty on the highway the other night and was doing 125. I started coming up on traffic so I eased into the brakes a little and it felt like I wasn't going to make it . My butt came up out of the seat because I was pushing on the brake pedal so hard. The brake pedal felt like it didn't want to go down. So the other day I was on a backroad straightaway and there was no one behind me, I got it up to fifty and stood on the brakes and it was the same thing. I couldn't even get the ABS to kick in. I would think this car should stop on a dime. Under normal driving conditions everything seems fine but if I ever have a real close call some day my Vette might have to visit the body shop . Anybody ever have this problem? I'm wondering if there's air in the lines and the system needs to be bled.

Thanks

Yep, something ain't right. you should be able to easily engage the ABS if you stand on the pedal.

My advice would be to do a forum search. These cars are ten to twenty years old, lots of people are having to replace stuff in their brake systems. So there are a lot of posts with various symptoms and cures.

Good luck!

Is your brake fluid black?

I had the same problem. Bleeding the brakes made a big difference on mine. Moisture in old fluid turns to gas with the heat of hard braking. It takes more energy to squeezing the gas than clean moisture free fluid. I plan to change the fluid once a year now.
