My 1986 Roadster OEM Horn is a joke. I can't believe a vette would have a horn that sounds like that. If anybody has any suggestions on a replacement horn that I can just bolt on and plug in without having to redo any wiring. I would really appreciate hearing from you. I don't want to make a big deal about this, I just want a louder/better sounding horn befitting the car it's in. Thanks.
Not sure if this helps. But when I first got my 95 in summer of 2004, the horns were really poor sounding. I looked and tried adjusting the control nuts on the horns themselves but no help. Then I noticed that both horns were positioned such that they were touching the side of the engine mounts and this interfered with their ability to vibrate properly. So I simply pulled the horns away from the mounts so that there was clearance and low and behold, the horns sounded at a proper level. Now this may not be your problem and the normal horn is nothing to be excited about, but I was surprised to see this problem on a stock vehicle.

The horns are in the front bumper, or at least they SHOULD be, and this is no where near any engine mounts!!!
I thought mine was weak sounding also, only sounded one note, kind of wimpy sounding. It wasn't until last week when someone came to look at the car noticed there was a loose connector. He stuck it in the nearest plug and voila, the horn sounded like it had some authority.
Got these as a replacement. They use the factory plug so there is no wiring or cutting. The only difference from stock is stock is welded to the bracket and these are bolt on. The brackets they give you with it are junk. I drilled the spot welds out on the old horn and bolted it to the old bracket.
Interesting timing... while you were starting this thread this morning, I was at the junkyard looking for another pair of horns for my '94. I ended up with a pair from a mid 90s Pontiac, that had the same two-wire connector as my Vette. My 11 year old son was proud to be the one to remove the horns from the junker. The one problem was the horn mount, which is spot welded on in 3 places, did not have the same bend as the Vette's. After trying to pry the horn mount off the horn, I gave up and cut the new and old mounts and welded it back together. For $10 I have a swell sounding tooter again. Unfortunately this will not help you unless you have a welder handy, or live near North Alabama so I can help.
I was having the same problem w/ the '93- Driver side horn was dead, replaced it w/ a 'f" note- Passenger side is very weak, anyone know if its the same or different note?
I had the same problem with the horn on my pickup. It used to really aggravate me when I got cut off in traffic or whatever and I really wanted to let the moron know how I felt... You understand. Anyway, the horn used to let out this wimpy squeak and irritate me even more. After some searching, I bought a horn from a company that makes them for tractor trailers.
NOW WE'RE TALKING!
I wouldnt dare do it in my vette, but my pickup sounds great. It almost makes me wish someone would give me a reason to use it.
BTW, my '89 horn sounds great, It must be a 96 thing.

I've been thinking about putting in an air horn - one of those with the little compressor and twin trumpets. On my Grand Prix, the stock wiring is hefty enough to drive the compressor from the horn connection. Has anyone done this? I know some car's wiring isn't big enough for the amperage that a compressor would draw.

I can't seem to locate the 2nd horn on my 87. When I bought it the 1st owner said "there's something wrong with the horn, here's the 2 out of my 84"... different connectors, but I can't even FIND the 2nd (the one I found is in the front on the drivers side below headlight contraption.)
