The oil is added by the machine that is used to charge the system with freon or actually it's replacement R134.

As a refrigeration engineer I say: don't mess with it if you don't know how. Over oiling a compressor can ruin the system. Best to let a shop do it, cheaper in the long run.

Why do you want to add oil? When the compressor was charged, oil was added simultaneously. If you add oil when it's not needed, not only will your compressor not cool well, but you could cause irreparable harm.

This one is best left for the shop to do. The measurement of oil and refrigerant is critical to the proper operation of the a/c. Over or under dosing can be fatal to the system. Just my 2 cents.....

Default compressor oil

if the compressor need oils you apparently have a leak in the system. you can check for a leak with a vacuum pump. hook it tho the service port , apply 30 inches of vacumm. leave applied for at least 5 min. check to see if there is a vacuum drop. if so have system evacuated , repair leak. and recharge system. the tech will add the correct amount of oil on recharging. just a thought a lot of noise from the compressor is the clutch. the clutch is a lot less expensive than replacing the entire compressor.
