Default Help!!!

Every time I shift form park to any gear I get a loud klunk from what sounds like the rear end. I had a mechanic look at it and its not the u-joints. any ideas? Its a 87 auto

This same question was asked at Chris Petris' C4 Bloomington Gold class this summer. I am not home to look at my notes but I think he said it had something to do with the transmission but not to worry about it as a mild thunk is normal. If it is REALLY bad then I would advise that you have the tranny checked.

If it is not the u joints, check for excessive backlash in the trans and rear. The aux valve body transmissions (early87 and on) had a valve to help cushion that hard apply.
