My '93 blew the 5 amp radio fuse - Replaced fuse & it lasted a day then blew- And again... Finally, it pops the fuse as I try to replace it- OK, must be a skinned wire now welded to some metal ground after the initial arcs- But where? Must I disconnect each component, insert a fuse & if it blows, move on to disconnecting the next component (each speaker, whatever the hell is in the well behind the passenger seat) & down the line? Has anyone had this problem? Where did you find the grounded/shorted wire? Behind or under the seat? In the dash, console, fuse box? This has also taken out the keyless entry option. Any ideas or history?
If the fuse blows with the radio off, I would suspect the wire going to the radio from the fuse block. Unplug the radio and any remote parts (my understanding is that 93's have a control head, a radio and speaker amplifiers) and install a fuse, if it blows, then you will need to trace the wire from the fuse box to the radio (all parts) to find out where it has no insulation and is touching ground. If the fuse doesn't blow, then connect, one at a time, the radio head, radio, amplifiers until the fuse blows which should tell you which part of the radio system is shorted.
Thanks for the info- Its pretty much what I expected to have to do-I had hoped someone who had solved their problem could point to a specific area where he scuffed wire might likely be found- I know, long shot & wishful thinking- Thanks for taking the time to answer!
