OK. I removed the radiator, waterpump, and opti cap. As expected, the opti was full of coolant and the waterpump looked like it was ready to seize. The shaft was very loose. I'm sure it had been slowly leaking onto the opti for quite some time because of the black residue just below it. Remember, my upper hose blew which led to this job. My question is; with this information, how far would most of you go to overhaul many of the parts which are in this area? (front seals, spark plug wires, etc.) I've been reading about the modifications for the opti, as well as the Dynaspark. Which would you guys suggest. I want to take care of as much as posible while I have the front end apart.
Thanks!
I would upgrade with whatever my wallet could afford. I'd go for an electric WP and the Dynaspark unit, plugwires along with new hoses. As far as any replacement of seals, that's up to you. Just my $0.02 worth.
Obviously, Opti and water pump at a minimum. Suggest you consider the DynaSpark.
Also:
1. All coolant hoses that aren't fairly new.
2. Plug wires. There's no easier time to do them (and it's still not easy).
3. Serpentine belt if it shows any signs of age.
4. Spark plugs while you have the wires off of them, if they have many miles on them.
5. Seals on the timing cover if they don't look great.
There has been a lot of chatter here on the forum in the past few weeks about all of this. Search the archives for advice about how best to accomplish these tasks.

it goes right in front of the block and attaches to both the upper "A" arms to stop flex. I'm sure others sell them but these folks http://www.r-dracing.com/ just had a special price for CF members not long ago I believe.
