First off I am getting a new battery so lets stop the jokes know...
I wanted to know if anyone has had any issues with overcharging of thier battery. I have a 96 and had a new alt. replaced last fall (2004). I have had no problems until last week. The car has been sitting a while and I noticed a clear puddle under the driver fender (under the bat try).. When I removed the battery, I found it leaking from the positive connection?
Overcharging won't make a battery leak acid from a battery terminal. The only way an alternator can overcharge a battery is to have significantly more than 14.7 volts across the battery terminals with the engine running. Cold, your dash voltmeter should read 14.3 volts and engine hot, 13.3.
A number of different battery brands develop leaks around the posts. It is quite common in C4's. they tend to exacerbate the problem due to their stiff suspensions and resultant vibrations.
As I recently found out from a leaky AC Delco, the positive battery cable will act like a straw and suck that acid through it and corrode anything in it's way - in some cases it will even fry the starter. Check your underhood fuses and make sure that they are clean or you may end up with electrical gremlins like I had.
Thanks everyone... I will get a new batt then get the charging system checked. I haven't noticed any high volts on the read outs, but that doesn't meant they're working right either..

Any clues???
i just had the exact same problem with my delco in my zr1 , i even had the leak coming out of the positive side when the cable was removed, i replaced it with another type of battery and its all set now. goodluck
BigDreams - When you pull the battery, you may want to unbolt the battery tray for clean up. When the battery's leak, the gas from the acid will eat the insulation off the fusible links behind the battery. Turn it to white powder.
If you caught it soon enough, then it will not be a problem.
AC Delco is fine. Looks like original equipment and a good guarantee.
